A private corner of the Internet where survivors can find words of hope and gentle advice from kindred spirits.
Through an alliance with Brightcove.com, the country's preeminent online media provider, THE SURVIVOR NETWORK puts the wisdom and support of prominent police chaplains, medical doctors and survivors at the fingertips of the grief-stricken, especially during the troubling days (and long nights) that follow a line-of-duty death.
Accessible around the clock, THE SURVIVOR NETWORK is a tool for filling the silence that can often surround grief, providing words of comfort and support, particularly during those hours when support may not be available.
And because the programming can be accessed anonymously, THE SURVIVOR NETWORK has the potential to reach those who might not otherwise seek help: the slain officer’s spouse, parents, grown children, or close friends within the department - individuals who may be more traumatized than they outwardly manifest, and whose grief may therefore go unresolved.
THE SURVIVOR NETWORK can reach those who are often overlooked during the chaotic days following a line-of-duty death - but who are nonetheless in need of critical support:
“A line-of-duty death is pervasive" says program supervisor Chaplain Dave Fair, Ph. D. "It touches every member of a department - as well as spouses, family members and loved ones - with traumatic stress reactions. Many individuals will go on to develop long-term impairment, such as Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disease. This is preventable with early crisis intervention. But unfortunately, whatever intervention that's available tends to be 'too little too late."
"Though "THE SURVIVOR NETWORK is not a 'one-stop' solution to this problem, it can urge the process along," observes Fair. "It can be the motivation a survivor needs to seek further support at a time critical to their recovery."
LIMITED ACCESS
By doing our best to limit access solely to survivors and law enforcement personnel, THE SURVIVOR NETWORK has cultivated a uniquely personal and intimate level of participation from members of the survivor community. It is for this reason that the testimonies provided by survivors are only available at the discretion of either the police chaplain or Support Services Coordinator within your department.
